My Journey
My journey began in 2003 when my son, Kade, at age 10 was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right arm. We spent endless hours in the hospital waiting for answers while Kade healed from testing, surgeries, and treatments. I waited, worried and prayed with countless other families dealing with similar and other severe situations. I am so extremely grateful with treatment and surgery, we were given the blessing of Kade living a healthy and happy life. However, the feeling of helplessness during that time was overwhelming and something from which you never quite recover.
In 2012, my world was again altered with the loss of my best friend, Judy, to breast cancer. More hours were spent in chemotherapy treatments, traveling to and from doctor’s appointments, time filled with love, laughter and tears. Once more, I found myself watching too many others move through the same battles as Judy and keenly aware of that same lingering sense of helplessness.
A New Trajectory
In 2013, I obtained my Idaho Esthetics License, my Utah Masters Esthetics License and opened my first wellness spa location in Rexburg, ID. In 2014, I traveled to Seattle, WA to further my education where I met Becky Kuehn, founder of Oncology Spa Solutions. After completing Becky’s Oncology Esthetics course and returning home to Idaho, I knew the trajectory of my life had been altered and realized I had found my purpose. I could blend both my love of work in esthetics with the world of oncology as a way to give back to those who were stripped of their strength, their personal perception of beauty, and sense of self.
Healthy Beauty
Soon after, I opened a second wellness spa in Phoenix, AZ where I worked primarily with oncology patients suffering with health-challenged skin. This was the beginning of my work that is deeply rooted in helping individuals feel confident, especially those navigating the effects of cancer treatments, autoimmune conditions and other health challenges that impact the skin. I help to support them through wig fittings, soothing skincare routines and makeup techniques designed specifically for sensitive or compromised skin.
Our world is full of products filled with toxins and parabens; I wanted to find better and healthier options. What began with finding the perfect eyebrow kit expanded into the creation of Candice Drake Cosmetics.
